Evaluating the diagnostic value of transbronchial lung cryobiopsy (TBLC) as well as its procedural feasibility and safety in a prospective series of 20 patients with diffuse interstitial lung diseases (DILD) who are referred for invasive histopathological diagnostics
The purpose of this study is to place past, current, and future medical record information into the UPMC Simmons Center for Interstitial Lung Disease Research Registry.
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic disease, leading to poor lung function with a median survival of 2-3 years. Acute exacerbation of idiopathic IPF is a complication associated with a mortality rate > 50%. So far, the appearance of an acute exacerbation is unpredictable. Worsening of the IPF accompanies with a decrease of the FVC-value, the lung capacity. So far, studies are missing investigating the correlation between a decrease of the FVC-value and emerging acute exacerbations. Therefore, this study uses daily home spirometry to investigate that correlation. With this study the investigators hope to determine acute ...
Patients with newly diagnosed IPF are investigated for the diagnostic delay before a diagnosis of IPF is made.
All incident cases of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) in Denmark will be offered inclusion during a 5 year period and followed up for up to 5 years with measurements of blood biomarkers and measurements of disease progression.
This is a prospective, randomized, non-blinded, multi-center, non-inferiority trial designed to compare effectiveness and side-effects of methotrexate versus prednisolone as first-line therapy for pulmonary sarcoidosis..
Exercise training as part of a structured pulmonary rehabilitation program is a key factor in improving quality of life and symptoms in people with interstitial lung disease (ILD). Optimal methods of exercise training are yet to be explored in ILD. Drinking beetroot juice, which is rich in nitrate, has been shown to improve exercise performance in a variety of groups, but its effects in ILD have not been tested. The purpose of this study is to determine if drinking nitrate-rich beetroot juice can improve exercise performance compared to drinking nitrate-free beetroot juice in people with ILD.
Frailty is closely linked to the success of lung transplantations (LTx) (1,2). Studies have shown that frailty causes a diminished physical performance in candidates for LTx and an increased 30 day rate of re-hospitalization after surgery. Furthermore, frailty is associated with a higher one-year-mortality rate after LTx in frail compared to non-frail patients (1,3,4). Some evidence that frailty in LTx-candidates can be decreased by a suitable rehabilitation program suggests that improving the frailty status in post-LTx patients can be a further strategy to contribute to an overall success in LTx. However, at the moment these possible ...
The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of a three-week inpatient pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) program on the walking speed in patients with chronic obstructive (COPD) or interstitial lung disease (ILD).
Evaluation of the efferocytosis capacities of blood Monocyte Derived Macrophages (MDM) from patients with a history of asbestosis or silica exposure and comparison of these capacities with those of MDM from healthy donors.
